King Size Doona Washing

Don’t wrestle with your washing machine. Wash your King Size Doona, Mink Blankets, and Curtains in under an hour.

Is your washing machine struggling with your winter quilt? Stop trying to jam bulky bedding into a small home washer. At Liquid Laundromats Australia, our commercial-grade machines are built to handle your biggest laundry challenges – fast, affordable, and easy.

Why Wash Your Doonas & Quilts with Us?

Home washing machines typically hold 7-10 kg. A wet king-size doona can weigh nearly double that, leading to unbalanced spin cycles, poor cleaning, or even machine damage.

Our laundromats offer super-sized 18 kg and 28 kg washers designed specifically for bulky items, including:

  • King and queen doonas/duvets (feather, down, wool, or synthetic)
  • Heavy mink blankets and weighted blankets
  • Curtains and drapes
  • Mattress protectors and toppers
  • Large rugs and sleeping bags

The Liquid Difference

  • Super Fast: High G-force spin cycles extract more water, reducing drying time.
  • Hygienic: Machines run hot wash cycles (up to 65 °C) to kill dust mites and allergens, ideal for seasonal deep cleans.
  • Eco-Friendly: Larger loads use less water and energy per kg of laundry.

How It Works: Wash a King-Size Doona in 3 Steps

1. Choose the Right Machine Select our 18 kg or 28 kg Mega Washers. Avoid smaller machines.

Tip: Your item should fill the drum loosely but not be packed tight. It needs room to tumble for effective cleaning.

2. Select Your Cycle

  • Synthetic/Cotton Doonas: Choose the Warm or Hot cycle for a thorough clean.
  • Feather/Down/Wool: Always check the care label first. Use the Gentle/Delicate Cold cycle to avoid shrinkage or clumping.

3. Dry It Right Transfer to one of our large commercial dryers.

Pro Tip: Add 2 clean tennis balls (or dryer balls) to the dryer with your doona. This helps fluff the filling and prevents damp clumps.

Note: Ensure down doonas are completely dry before removing them to avoid mildew.

FAQs?

Can I wash a feather or down doona?
+

Yes, but you must be careful. Use our 18kg washers on a Gentle/Cold cycle. Heat can damage natural fibers. When drying, use a low heat setting and check it frequently. The “tennis ball trick” is essential here to restore loft

Can I wash pet blankets?
+

Yes! Many of our locations have dedicated Animal & Pet Blanket Washers. Please look for the machine specifically marked for pet use to keep our standard machines hair-free for other customers.

Are heavy blankets and throws safe to wash in your machines?
+

Absolutely. Our machines are built for bulky textiles like mink blankets, wool throws, and weighted blankets. They spin out excess water efficiently, reducing drying time.

Can I bring pet blankets or rugs?
+

Yes, you can. Our washers handle pet bedding and rugs with ease, removing fur, odours, and dirt. This keeps your home machine free from pet mess.

How long does it take?
+

A standard wash cycle takes about 25–30 minutes. Drying a large heavy doona usually takes 30–45 minutes depending on the material. You can be in and out with a fresh, dry quilt in just over an hour.

Why shouldn’t I wash bulky items at home?
+

Home machines often lack the drum size and power for heavy bedding. Washing doonas or rugs at home can:

  • Damage your appliance
  • Leave items damp inside (risking mould)
  • Cause uneven cleaning or detergent residue

Liquid Laundromats’ specialised equipment avoids these problems.
